Annie in Rwanda

Annie Camacho is an SRNA in the Georgetown DNAP Class of 2020. In January 2019, she had the opportunity to travel to Rwanda for a mission trip during her studies here at Georgetown. The faculty supported Annie in her endeavor and she had a great experience. Check out Annie’s story:

Annie was able to gain experience with equipment used in austere environments.

“I was given the opportunity to travel to Rwanda with the International Organization for Women and Development (new window). This is an organization focused on providing free treatment to women with obstetric fistulas and pelvic floor disorders.
It was an incredible experience for me clinically and personally. Not only did I get to practice anesthesia alongside CRNAs with years of experience doing global health work, but I also developed a better understanding of what it takes to be a safe and effective anesthesia provider in more challenging circumstances (such as times without power or oxygen!). It was a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a surgical team doing really great and lasting work. It also helped me to set the foundation for my future as a CRNA, as I try to form my career around being a part of global health initiatives and surgical teams focused on safe surgery and improving access for all.”
