Allan Lovern Faculty Profile

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Allan Lovern, DNP, FNP-BC, CRNA. Dr. Lovern recently joined Georgetown University as an Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program and will be directing the Advanced Health Assessment Class

In 1997 Dr. Lovern earned the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.  As a registered nurse, he acquired extensive adult and neonatal critical care experience.  In 2002 he was accepted into the Nurse Anesthesia Program at LaRoche College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated in 2004 with his Master’s Degree in Health Sciences.  Dr. Lovern continued his education in 2013 by enrolling in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program, Nurse Educator Concentration at Samford University.  In August 2014, he was awarded the DNP degree with an additional concentration in nursing education.            

Dr. Lovern is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, Mississippi Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau.  His doctoral research focused on the intraoperative utilization of exhaled carbon dioxide monitoring in patients undergoing endoscopic procedures in the outpatient setting.  Other areas of interest include the treatment and management of individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.  Dr. Lovern continues to work as an FNP at a nonprofit organization where he provides HIV care to many people throughout the state of Mississippi.
